BONDS INDICTED...AND IT ONLY TOOK FOUR YEARS
So after all these years the Feds feel they have a case? Or maybe now they have a Department of (selective) Justice leader more in the style of the former Grand Wizard, er Attorney General Ashcroft, the Mark McGwire apologist, who initiated the whole BALCO investigation because he was jealous that his local hero was surpassed in the record books by Big Bad Black Barry. My own personal theory using the same logic that others have used. You know the whole Barry was jealous of Sammy and Mark thing.
Where was Ashcroft when the FBI was investigating McGwire during Operation Equine. Maybe things would have been a lot different. Right!! For those who don't believe race plays a factor in this look up Operation Equine and see what you find. And see if you understand where selective prosecution plays a huge factor in all of this.
Operation Equine:
http://www.ergogenics.org/canseco2.html
http://www.ergogenics.org/fbi2.html
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=steroids&num=5
This is the same Department of Justice, the same Administration and virtually the same Congress that watched Rafael Palmeiro wag his finger in front of their faces and chastise them for accusing him of steroid use, then fails a test shortly thereafter, and they can't put a perjury case together against him? Apparently now they've figured it out.
The argument goes something along the lines of, "Well, just because he failed a test shortly a testifying doesn't mean we can prove he was doing steroids when he testified before Congress. Therefore, we can't prove he lied to us enough to charge him with perjury". Are you freaking kidding me?
And we're to hear that the Feds really take this lying under oath stuff seriously?
Every day, they make themselves into more and more of a running joke. And the problem is, they are in charge making decisions that effect the economy, national security and the future of this country.
Now, we have a newly minted Attorney General in Mike Mukasey, who apparently is the only person in the free world who does not seem to realize that water boarding is considered torture. He fits right in with a Bush Administration whose lasting legacy is going to be of an administration of hooligans that throughout it's eight years consistently and systematically treated the Constitution as if it was a piece of toilet paper. Illegal wire tapping of citizens, KGB style secret prisons, selective disregard for due process and on and on.
Even if Greg Anderson flipped after all these years of incarceration and the duress of feeling the full might of the Department of Justice and the IRS on his back threatening to ruin his life, how effective a witness can he be?
If he turns and testifies, I would assume Michael Rains would have a field day with his testimony. We have only a history of either vague, contradictory statements or no statements at all regarding his dealings with Bonds and Balco.
All you have to do is think back to Patti Hearst and how she went from sweet little rich girl to machine gun toting bank robber after being held for a short while by the Symbionese Liberation Army. It's called the Stockholm Syndrome. Of course, the defense didn't work out to well for Hearst because the jury felt she had chances to escape her captors or not actively participate in criminal activity, but the underlying theory applies even more to Anderson flipping to the government side, if indeed he did so. I would think most would understand he was coerced to testify. And I do not think Anderson had the same opportunity to escape the clutches of Uncle Sammie as Patti Hearst had to escape from the SLA.
Victor Conte has already questioned the chain of custody for any positive drug sample that may have been provided. Balco was not a certified drug testing facility, they farmed out the work. So the protocol followed for verifying any samples or records that the DOJ may have found in their dumpster dive at Balco would seem to be evidence that would also get shredded fairly easily.
And even if a positive sample is produced, I'm not sure if that pierces the "unknowingly" defense strategy Bonds and his team will pursue.
The good news is this is finally out of the court of public opinion. The court of public opinion is the court favored by those who turn a blind eye to instances like the Jena 6, the Ku Klux Klan and the selective violation of peoples civil rights all over this country. Remember it was the Court of Public Opinion that would have kept Rosa Parks on the back of the bus - the Court of Law changed that. The Court of Public Opinion was for segregation - the Court of Law gave us Brown vs. Board of Education. The Court of Public Opinion is the court of choice for lynch mobs and Klansmen. The Court of Public Opinion is for talk show hosts and backyard gossips and magpies - the Court of Law is where civilized people decide matters of law.
What we do have is more fodder for the lackeys in the media to come out of their holes, iron their finest sheets and robes and come out and Barry-bash one more time. All this after baseball has finished ringing the cash register, albeit while acting as if they were holding their noses through it all. Do you think they are going to give the money back? Are any of the teams that charged a Barry Bonds premium to their ticket prices going to refund money back to their patrons I think not. Will they donate the excess cash generated by the traveling Bonds show from last year? My estimate of the excess generated by the show would be anywhere from $100-150 million dollars across the league. And now they want to do something. Shameless.
One of the local wags was screeching about how it has been documented that Bonds lied 19 times to the Grand Jury (I assume the source is the medias bible on the subject, Game of Shadows). So the book documents 19 lies - but the prosecutors, who actually have to prove (document) the lies conclusively only bring five charges. Did they miss something in the other 14 instances that the learned eyes, ears and minds of the journalistic community were more capable of finding? Or is this a case study for the percentage of garbage you hear in the media that is actually closer to fiction than truth.
Lets' do the math shall we? Five for nineteen equals 26.3% or a .263 batting average, to put it in baseball terms. Now, while that may get you a cushy mega-dollars free agent contract if your agent is Scott Boras, it's not a particularly good average if your discussing the ethics of good journalism. Especially if the example cited is one that was held up as Nobel Prize winning journalism.
Now finally, the rules of the game will change somewhat. No longer will the government hold the Bonds camps hands behind their back, strung up like a human pinada for the media to take swings at with impunity. Now the other side gets to swing back. Now the selective leaks of information, and this is the only steroid case, of the many out there (Operation Equine, Grimsley, Radomski et. al.) that sprung selective leaks of information, are over. The case finally is in the shining light of the public domain. Hallelujah!!!
It's time to put up or shut up now, for everyone. For the Feds, for Michael Rains and lastly for the media. Although, given the ethics of the mainstream media, I doubt very much they will be willing to accept whatever decision the courts bring down.
Like the Bush Administration's handling of the Constitution, if the media doesn't like the decision, they'll just make up one that suits their agenda. In that regard, they are two parties who are made for each other and deserve the lasting contempt of fair minded Americans.

A fallen soldier's heartfelt last words to family
Published: 11/11/2007 12:08 AM
Before he left to train for a second tour of duty in Iraq, Marine Cpl. Joseph E. Stevenson III of Downers Grove wrote a letter to his family, in case he did not return.
Stevenson, 20, died in his sleep on Oct. 28 at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Stevenson was buried last week with full military honors. His parents, Barbara Ann and Joseph E. Stevenson Jr., have given the media permission to reprint their son's letter over the Veterans Day weekend.
Here is Joe's letter:
I've been trying to write this letter for a long time now, but as I am getting ready to leave I need to finish it. It's my best attempt at trying to comfort you if anything happens to me. I hope it helps if anything should happen to me.
First of all, I only ask a few things of you if something should happen. I want to be buried in a National Cemetery with a full military funeral, that is the only way I want to leave this life. Next, I want you to proudly fly an American flag and a Marine Corps flag so that everyone knows the price we've paid for the great country we have. And if anyone asks you why you fly them tell them not to remember me but the price our country has paid for its freedom. I want you to do whatever you find necessary with the money I left you. Make sure Lindsey's college is paid, and Dad get the foosball table I know you've wanted. And Mom I want you to enjoy it however you please.
The most important thing I ask of you is to remember me as the great young man you raised. In past attempts to write this letter I listed some great memories I enjoyed with you. I don't think that I need to do that. Just remember the great times we've had on the patio talking of those while enjoying a beer. That to me is some of the best times we've had and when I am away from home that is what I miss the most.
If something would happen to me I am not afraid for me but only the people I love so much back home. I know that this letter can't fix that, but I hope it helps you. I would never want my passing to cause fighting among the close knit family we've made over the years. I hope it brings you closer and helps you realize just how important family is.
Don't let my passing bring out hatred for the Corps or our Country. I hope it only strengthens your support for the war and the Men and Women who fight for our freedom.
Since I've been in I grew a new appreciation for our Country and Military. I know you have done this too. I can tell by the way you support me. I don't know too many parents who show this much support. With out all of your support I don't know if I could have made it this far.
As a family you have done so much for me and I could not ask for another Mom, Dad, or Sister that has done as much as you have for me.
I hope you never have to read this letter. If you do, realize that if I had a chance to do it all over again I would change nothing. I am ready to die if I need to, but I am not ready to leave you.
If I learned one thing in my life it is how important family is. No matter what you do or where you go your family will be behind you and still love you. You have done everything you can for me and what happens to me in Iraq is up to God. But if I have to die I will be watching over the family and loved ones who have given me so much in the past. I won't be leaving you though cause I know I will see you again in heaven.
I don't know how to end this letter but all I can leave you is the motto I have lived by since my time in the Corps. Semper Fidelis. Always faithful to God, Corps, and Country. And most importantly Family. Live the rest of your life to the fullest and don't mourn my death too long. Instead remember the memories we have, and know that I will see you again some day in heaven.
Semper Fidelis
Your Loving Son
Joe

IT'S SUPER MOUSE!!! AND ELSIE THE WONDER COW!!!
I've said on many occasions, it will not be long before we will look at this current PED-era as quaint and charming compared to what the sports landscape will be faced with in the future. UNBELIEVABLE. They say it won't have uses in sports, and wouldn't be allowed anyway, but who in their right mind believes that? When have pronouncements like that stopped anybody in the past?
Steroids have their positive uses in medicine as well, it was not long before athletes were able to discover the utility applied to healthy individuals as well. The bodybuilders have to be salivating over this one, they will without be the first human guinea pigs for illicit use. But competative athletes will not be far behind.
Genetically engineered 'mighty mouse' is the rodent Lance Armstrong
By Roger Highfield, Science Editor
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?view=DETAILS&grid=&xml=/earth/2007/11/01/scimice101.xml
Scientists have created a "mighty mouse" that is capable of trotting along at three quarters of a mile per hour (20 meters per minute) for three miles at a time, and that appears healthier, trimmer and longer lived than its peers.
These remarkable mice will underline fears that genetic engineering could one day be abused by athletes, though this kind of approach could equally well be put to good use in hospitals to help keep muscles strong and steady in old age, and reverse the effects of muscle wasting disease.
By boosting levels of an enzyme the mice became "metabolically similar to Lance Armstrong biking up the Pyrenees," said Prof Richard Hanson at Case Western Reserve, Cleveland, the senior author of a paper in the Journal of Biological Chemistry describing the rodents turbocharged with the enzyme, called phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK-C).
These genetically engineered mice, "PEPCK-C muscle mice" eat 60 percent more food than normal mice but remain fitter, trimmer - weighing half as much - and lived up to three years of age, longer than wild mice. Some female mighty mice had pups at 2.5 years of age, an amazing feat considering that most mice do not reproduce after they are one year old.
According to Prof Hanson, the key to this remarkable effect is the excessive manufacture (over expression, as scientists say) in muscle of the gene that carries the instructions for the body to make the enzyme.

In the past, such discoveries have triggered speculation that this kind of genetic tinkering could be exploited by athletes to boost performance and endurance, though Prof Hanson told the Telegraph that he believed "the possibility of using this procedure to enhance human performance is highly unlikely."

Does this make steroid use look like child's play?

Earlier on we had the incredible hulk dog, Wendy the Whippet. This time meet Belgian Blue Cattle which is famous for their double muscling due to a gene that suppresses the production of Myostatin. This breed produces extraordinary amounts of meat but critics call Belgian blues ‘monster cows’ and some countries have advocated to eliminate the strain. Ron Paul Schools Ben Bernanke Again
This is one of the reasons I believe people have lost confidence in the political process, as evidenced by voter apathy reflected by turnout at the polls. Here we have the only politician willing to speak openly and honestly about something that truly affects regular peoples lives everyday, and he's running virtually last in the polls.
Are we as citizens that dumb or is the process of electing our future leaders that corrupt and disingenuous?
Of the small amount of Helicopter Ben's testimony I did see, I could not believe this guy is in charge of the Fed.
This quote yesterday from the Chinese:
"We will favor stronger currencies over
weaker ones, and will readjust accordingly," Cheng
Siwei, vice chairman of China's National People's
Congress. The dollar is "losing its status as the
world currency," Xu Jian.
Bernanke was asked directly about this and said he had no
concern that there would be any adjustment. This is a very high stakes game of poker so he had better be right about this.
He mentioned how the dollars weakness would only
effect exports not imports????? It's said the bond
traders went nuts when he said that. This is pure crazy talk.
He was asked at what level mortgages should be
protected if/when Congress decides to do that, at
first he deferred and said it was up to Congress, but
when pressed further he said basically "I don't know
$1Million". Ridiculous. We're going to protect fool-hardy behavior from homeowners sophisticated enough to secure a million dollar mortgage. Are you out of your freaking mind?
In my opinion, Ron Paul was remarkably restrained. I'd have thrown something at the Fed Chairman. Maybe if it hit him, it would knock some sense into him.
FROM FINANCIALSENSE.COM - DEADLY DOLLAR CONFLUENCE
http://www.financialsense.com/fsu/editorials/willie/2007/1108.html
Despite what the US Federal Reserve claims, they will indeed cut interest rates again and again. Their motive in a deceptive statement of balanced risks for growth and inflation was intended to prevent a financial market immediately pricing of that next cut.
The GDP assumes price inflation is running at 3% or so, from the Personal Consumption Index, another kooky series. The actual price inflation has been running at 10% or so for almost a full year, as anybody with a freaking pulse can testify, who lives, breathes, eats, transports, entertains, builds anything, and uses services in life from day to day. The liars have seen a gulf grow from their numbers versus reality, with the price inflation lie running above 6% now. This means all inflation adjusted statistics are wrong by at least 6%, namely income, economic growth, retail sales, even the previous peak gold price and previous peak oil price. The travesty of lies on price inflation deeply affects the Social Security recipients and federal pension holders and savers. They must accept measly fixed income lifts.
The confidence level in the USDollar is another key element. USFed Chairman Bernanke said something truly stupid today, easily refuted by a good college student. He said that US export prices are rising (a good thing), but US import prices are not rising (a lie).
Hey, let’s be really clear, Ben Bernanke looked scared today before the Congressional Banking Committee. He claimed the “USDollar is sound in the medium term” which sounds half as baseless and empty as the parroted Paulson claims that “A strong USDollar is in our national interest.” Laughter would be warranted if the situation were not so desperately dire and dangerous.
The USFed dilemma is great for gold. In fact, the USDollar is not central to the gold bull anymore. THE DRIVING FORCE IS GLOBAL MONETARY INFLATION, PUSHED BY CENTRAL BANKERS. The money supply growth is over 14% and rising with each passing quarter. In a two-week period in August, the US$ money supply grew at an annual rate of over 50%. Can you say WEIMAR ???

SPRINGSTEEN - 30 YEARS OF GREATNESS
LOST IN THE FLOOD - 1975 @ Hammersmith Odeon, London
This song appeared on Greetings from Asbury Park, the first album and I'm sure many times I flipped right past it and dismissed it as a horrible song. But, this rendition was one of the top songs in a concert that includes Born to Run, Thunder Road, Jungleland and other, more traditional headliners. It goes to show that the producers of the first two albums (CBS) had no clue what kind of talent they had on their hands or how to present it. Born to Run was a make or break album and the Brits were licking their chops to see this cat that was making all the headlines across the pond.
DEVILS ARCADE - 2007 @ UNITED CENTER IN CHICAGO
Thirty years later, still writing and singing great songs. I would give anything to be able to write ONE song as great as the hundreds that Springsteen has produced.
