IS THIS JUST THE GIANTS BEING THE GIANTS??

It's not like the Giants don't have a ton of experience dealing with controversial, superstar left-fielders, so hey why not?

He doesn't bust ass on grounders, is that it? That's for banjo hitting middle infielders. Nobody kills them for not hitting one over the wall now and then.

So what if he occasionally runs Home to 1B in 5.3 seconds? That was probably Bonds average when he hit one right at an IF.

Would this put them over the top? - If not over, close to it.

Are any legitimate prospects blocked by the move? - Are you serious?

Does the move improve the position or the lineup? - Read my recent post on the Giants by position. I described the OF as somnolent, which means slumberous: inclined to or marked by drowsiness; "slumberous (or slumbrous) eyes"; "`slumbery' is archaic"; "the sound had a somnolent effect" .

Would the addition of Manny change that description? Oh yes...yes he would.

As for the lineup, the current projections have Rowand, Winn or Sandoval batting third and Bengie Molina batting clean-up. Would Manny be an upgrade here? Oh yes...yes he would be.

I sign off on the move. Get it done GIANTS.

Giants Aggressively Pursuing Manny?
By Tim Dierkes [January 1, 2009 at 11:33am CST]

According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post:

The Giants, the NL West's most active team this winter, are quietly making an aggressive play for free agent Manny Ramirez, according to a major-league source.

The Giants have been linked to Manny for months now; they apparently spoke with Scott Boras about him in November. It's interesting to see the Giants being aggressive while so many other teams are standing pat. Would Manny put them over the top? I imagine Brian Sabean would like to move Dave Roberts, Randy Winn, or Aaron Rowand to clear roster and payroll space.
