Well, since I said Tejada was the least palatable solution yesterday, you just had to know this was coming.

Giants To Sign Miguel Tejada

The Giants agreed to sign Miguel Tejada to a one-year deal worth $6.5MM that includes a $500K bonus, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes (on Twitter).
The Giants had been pursuing shortstops aggressively ever since Juan Uribe signed with the Dodgers. They matched Los Angeles' three-year, $21MM offer before moving on to other targets, according to Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times. The Giants appeared to have strong interest in Jason Bartlett, and even contacted Derek Jeter's agent.
Statistically, this is a bit of a drop-off from Uribe.
Uribe was 24-85-.248 with 3.2 WAR (Wins over Replacement) and a decent FLD of 6.8.
Tejada came in at 15-71-.269 with a 1.3 WAR and a -6.8 FLD
Surprisingly, Bartlett was one of the lower ranked SS with 0.7 WAR and 4-47-.254 and low FLD #.
He would be looking for a bounce back year and probably would have to be locked in for more than one year.
Uribe ranked behind Tolowitzki and Stephen Drew (who didn't) at the position. Among the available SS's Reyes (2.8 WAR) Jeter (2.5 WAR) Scutaro (2.1 WAR) appeared to be better alternatives statistically.
Of course, as we know, past performance is no guarantee of future results.
The speculation is if the Giants pursue another SS, Tejada moves to 3B. But if DeRosa comes back and/or Panda slims down and stops acting like a windmill, Tejada keeps the seat warm at SS for one year until one of the prospects emerges and seizes control of the position for the next ten years.
A healthy, motivated Tejada who would be playing for his next contract on a one-year deal should produce at least what the Uribe / Renteria combo did in 2010 with perhaps a bit of a drop-off defensively.
