Given his skill set with the glove, Crawford can be a quality major league SS in the future. He was rushed to the majors due to the Giants rash of injuries this season and his lack of development with the bat has been exposed a bit, but he is making adjustments. Ideally, this learning would be done at the AA or AAA level, but if Crawford manages to keep his head above water, he only needs to hit .250 - .270 to be a valuable member of a winning team. When he is at SS and Burris is at 2B, the defensive side of the ledger is more adequately covered.

"The 24-year-old has been up and down at the plate. When he arrived, he had some great at-bats, which suddenly disappeared. But in six games after his batting average dipped to a low of .182 after going hitless against Cleveland on June 24, he went 7-for-18 and added 39 points to the average. It dipped from .221 to .212 after Sunday's 0-for-4.

He credited a mechanical change he made at Hensley Meulens' suggestion. It involves his hands and allows him to load up his swing faster.

'I'm seeing the ball better and making better decisions,' he said, 'when before, everything was rushed and I was swinging at everything. Now I'm doing everything sooner and I can see the ball longer.'"
