OK Giants fans, here's your newest star RB David Wilson. I will admit, with my guy TE Coby Fleemer still on the board, I had the feeling you get as a kid when you open a Christmas gift and get socks or underwear. A little bit of a let down. But I'll get over it. The whole draft itself is like that for fans. You come downstairs and there's 6-8 presents under the tree with your name on them. Of course, we opened the biggest gift first with the first rounder. But we still have more presents to open today.

| There is no questioning Wilson's impeccable physical credentials - he had the best vertical leap at the NFL combine at 41 inches and longest broad jump at 11 feet while also placing tied for third in the 20-yard shuttle (4.12 seconds), fourth in the 60-yard shuttle, tied for seventh in the 40-yard dash (4.59) and 10th in the 3-cone drill (7.09) as a two-sport athlete. The question facing Wilson is whether all that athletic ability can be harnessed into making him a skilled running back at the NFL level. He opted to leave Virginia Tech a year early after rushing for a school-record 1,709 yards in his lone season as a starter while scoring nine touchdowns and averaging 5.9 yards per carry as a junior, earning ACC offensive and overall player of the year honors. Wilson, who also had 22 receptions, matched the ACC single-season record of 10 100-yard games established by fellow Hokie Ryan Williams in 2009 and could be a work-in-progress as a kick returner after averaging 18.9 yards on 22 returns. The biggest issues for Wilson are his running style - it is unorthodox because of his track background - and also his impatience at the position. He tries to make a big play every down and has yet to consistently let a play develop and seek out a hole, instead preferring to use his athleticism. Despite this knock, Wilson has a very good chance to go late in the first round or early in the second. He is a stellar track athlete and finished sixth nationally in the triple jump this spring. |

The former Hokie should be a cinch to step in and see action on the field as the rotational back with Bradshaw. His stunning 4.35 40 yard run at the Indy Combine certainly didn't hurt his cause, but Wilson provides the Giants with not only speed but the ability to be a receiving back and give the Giants solid depth and rotation in the backfield.
