Bumgarner saves the day (ho-hum)

OK, where have we heard this before? Bumgarner puts the Giants on his back and carries them to victory? ANYONE? ANYONE? Some themes never get old.

from Giants Extra:
Extra Baggs: Casilla records two saves in one night, Cain and Cliff Lee dealing with similar injury, Giants not looking at Zito reunion, etc. - Giants Extra:
This much is clear: The Giants need someone besides Madison Bumgarner to at least approach 200 innings this season, and I’m not sure you can reasonably expect 180 out of anyone else.
– The good news is that Cain’s ulnar collateral ligament is fine, according to Bochy, and Tommy John surgery is not in the cards. But a flexor tendon injury can run the gamut depending on the severity of the strain.
Every strain is a muscle tear, to some extent. For pitchers with a significant tear, which is what the Phillies’ Cliff Lee is dealing with now, the options are extended rehab or surgery that requires a 6-8 month recovery period with the very real prospect of diminished stuff upon your return.
When I was covering the Dodgers, both Andy Ashby and Kevin Brown had flexor mass surgery. Brown made it back in barely five months, and made the All-Star team in 2001. But, facts being facts, he made his recovery in an era before widespread PED testing.
One other fact: Brown’s name was in the Mitchell Report for receiving shipments of steroids and human growth hormone. Anyway, all this is to say that a flexor tendon issue is no little boo boo that will automatically get better with a little rest and some chicken soup.

But seriously, I was thinking......Giants win every game that Bumgarner starts to go 32-0.

Sort of like Bumgarner morphs into a mini-Mike Ditka. Image result for mini Mike Ditka

Then all you have to do is go .500 in the games that Mo, Larry and Curly pitch and PRETSO!! you've won 97 games and the division.

Or, you could just pitch Bumgarner in every game and go 162-0. The risk there is that the team becomes overly complacent going into the playoffs and nobody wants that.

Seriously though, the top of the order looked good, including Pagan in the three spot. Maybe they just want to prevent Pagan from the wear and tear of stealing bases. Shaky bullpen, but got the job done.

Pagan 3-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a BB

McGehee 2-3 and a BB ( Pablo oh for five and 3 K's. Eat that Pablo!! )

Panik 3-5 and a 2B

Crawford 2-4 and 2 RBI and again a big hit versus a LH reliever.

Aoki 2-5

Duffy 1-1 PH ( all he does is hit )

A workman like effort from the big guy and a nail biting party from the bullpen.

GIANTS BASEBALL!! WELCOME BACK!!
