Giants draft picks Rounds 8 through 11 | mlb.com | Baseball America

The pitchers are classic Giants picks for RHP's, big-bodes and relatively big, heavy FB's. I included Texas SS C.J. Hinojosa since he was fairly highly ranked at the end of last season and maybe even as late as pre-season. Looks like he slipped some, but who knows?

For all intents and purposes, we are in relative long-shot territory here, maybe 1 in 5 make it here. So, looks at this list, if one of them makes it, you've done your job.

Good job overall by the Giants re-stocking the system, This draft will be measured down the road by how much the first eight picks perform. Normally, if three of the first eight make it and contribute something to the big club, that's about average. This one could bring four and perhaps five and that takes it to above-average to very good.

Graybill has been drafted twice, and both times he elected to return to school. The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder was picked by the Dodgers in the 31st round of the 2012 Draft and again by the Yankees in the 32nd round a year ago. He returned to Arizona State University and made his first pitching appearance this year on March 22. Graybill went on to appear in nine games, including two starts, while recording a 4.32 ERA, nine strikeouts and nine walks in 8 1/3 innings. The Phoenix native pitched one inning in the Collegiate Baseball Classic against the D-backs on March 3. 447 David Graybill rhp Arizona State Ariz. 20 Scouting from Baseball America: Scouting Report:While Arizona State pitchers Ryan Burr, Brett Lilek and Ryan Kellogg will all be drafted within the first few rounds, the seldom-used Graybill may have the best arm on the staff. The righthander has a fastball that sits 94-95 mph and touches 97, but his secondary pitches lag behind. He struggles to throw strikes and is still developing a feel for pitching, but his arm strength likely will be enough to entice a team to give him a chance to work things out in the minor leagues.

He burst on to the scene as a freshman, hitting .309 and getting named to the 2013 Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Hinojosa starred as a sophomore in 2014, batting .298, starting all 67 games at shortstop and earning College World Series All-Tournament Team honors as he picked up a hit in all five games of

Cyr transfers to NAIA power Embry Riddle this year after pitching for Skyline (Calif.) CC, and he opened some eyes this summer thanks to the league’s best fastball. It sat at 93-95 mph in the FWL and touched 97. Cyr has a long, lean frame with room to add more weight. His changeup flashed plus potential out of the bullpen and he also mixed in a get-me-over slider. Cyr has issues commanding his pitches and throwing strikes in general, walking 17 in 15 innings while striking out 20. But he throws gas, and he could reward a pro club that takes a flier on him next June.
