FastStats - Overweight Prevalence



The numbers are bad and continue to get worse. There are no simple answers. The problem is multi-factorial in nature and development, so no quick fixes or snappy slogans are going to do anything but make people feel good about doing SOME thing. It's seems obvious however, based on recent trends, that we are not doing enough of the RIGHT things.

Data are for the U.S.

Adults

  • Percent of adults age 20 years and over who are obese: 35.1% (2011-2012)
  • Percent of adults age 20 years and over who are overweight, including obesity: 69.0% (2011-2012)

Children and adolescents

  • Percent of adolescents age 12-19 years who are obese: 20.5% (2011-2012)
  • Percent of children age 6-11 years who are obese: 17.7% (2011-2012)
  • Percent of children age 2-5 years who are obese: 8.4% (2011-2012)
