Giants agree to minor-league deal with Ricky Romero | theScore

A typical Giants move. Low risk, potential for high reward if it works out. The Giants will need arms if Peavy and/or Cain continue to languish on the DL/trainers room. If the Giants have to bring Romero up, it spells bad news re; one of the two veterans. They do need another left-handed starter, but I'm sure Giants fans would have preferred Cole Hamels. That won't happen.

Report: Giants agree to minor-league deal with Ricky Romero | theScore:
Ricky Romero will reportedly get a chance to revive his career in his native California.

Released by the Toronto Blue Jays last month after control issues and injuries derailed his career, the 30-year-old agreed to a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Romero, who is still owed almost $7.5 million by the Blue Jays, hasn't thrown a pitch in a major-league game since 2013, though, and is still recovering from a pair of surgeries precipitated by chronic knee problems.

Selected with the sixth pick of the 2005 draft, Romero quickly emerged as a rotation stalwart for the Blue Jays following his 2009 debut - he earned an All-Star appearance at the age of 26 - before major control issues halted a career that began with such promise.
