Giants bring back Boof Bonser!! - MLBTradeRumors.com


Not a bad pick up for the G-men. Trying to get a little more ROI from the 2002 bonus budget. The Giants are on the prowl for the 2012 version of Ryan Voglesong. Bonser was solid MLB pitcher when healthy.

"The Giants signed right-hander Boof Bonser to a minor league deal, his agency, Reynolds Sports, announced on Twitter. Bonser has a 5.18 ERA with 7.2 K/9 and 2.9 BB/9 in 416 2/3 career innings and hasn't pitched at the Major League level since 2010. Bonser underwent Tommy John surgery early in the 2011 season and likely won't be ready to pitch for San Francisco until midway through the 2012 campaign. The Giants selected Bonser, now 30, with the 21st overall pick of the 2000 draft."

Giants Top Minor League Prospects

  • 1. Brandon Belt 6-5,185 1B Lefty bat, solid hitting prospect across the board. Plate discipline, contact, power #'s are all solid
  • 2. Gary Brown 6-1,190 CF has plus speed, considered a lead-off hitter who can be a force at the top of the lineup. Defense is a plus. Potential Gold-Glove-type. His arm is acceptable. A gap-to-gap hitter with little pop. Plate discipline and contact need to improve.
  • 3. Eric Surkamp 6-5, 220 LHP NC State grad, showed well early in A ball. Effective finesse lefty with size.
  • 4. Heath Hembree 6-4,210 RHP from Coastal Carolina with 98MPH FB, has closer stuff, secondary pitches may need more work. Could rise fast.
  • 5. Francisco Peguero 6-0, 175 OF solid hitter, needs more plate discipline to advance (3% BB-Rate), his speed is near off the charts. Not projected as power hitter.
  • 6. Conor Gillaspie 6-1,200 3B Lefty bat, has not progressed as quickly as some may have liked, but still shows promise as a hitter.
  • 7. Hector Sanchez 6-0,185 C Solid, patient hitter (12% BB-Rate). Improving defense with solid arm. May have Panda-like problems with weight.
  • 8. Ehire Adrianza 6-1, 155 SS Switch hitting, slick fielder. Hits just enough, good contact. Bat still a ??, patience (9% BB-Rate) with no pop. Can steal bases, great range, solid hands and good arm for SS.
  • 9. Brandon Crawford 6-2, 200 SS has shown promise as a hitter, patience is OK (11% BB-Rate), less K's (+25% K-Rate) would help to move into elite prospect turf. Good field, no hit rap tough to shake.
  • _10. Charlie Culberson 6-1, 186 SS Still highly regarded within organization as recent AFL assignment will attest. Has to hit better. K-Rate near 20% and BB-Rate of only 6% needs to turn around for MIF prospect with limited pop..
  • _11. Jorge Bucado 6-1, 155 RHP Solid, low K-rate pitcher with strong sinker. Still raw, ceiling limited. His role could be middle relief or 3-4 starter. Secondary stuff needs work. Throws grounders.
  • _12. Jose Casilla 6-1,190 RHP Hard throwing sinkerballer, throws strikes, keeps ball in the park. Hard to hit.
  • _13. Roger Kieschnick 6-3, 215 OF Lefty bat, potential five-tool corner OF who could hit for power and steal some bases. Plays fearless defensively and shows a good arm. Above average speed. Power is a plus skill. Swing is a bit long but has good plate discipline and draws walks. Has been slowed by injuries.
  • _14. Jarrett Parker 6-4,210 OF Has not showed much as a hitter as of yet. Patient, but needs more pop for his size. Plus speed and defensive CF.
  • _15. Nick Noonan 6-0, 180 2B another who may have slipped a bit from early reviews, still grades out well with the bat, patience and plate discipline are hurting him. Otherwise, a solid prospect.
  • _16. Chris Dominguez 3B Big, strong, power hitting prospect from Louisville. Will rise fast if he makes more contact, power is legit.
  • _17. Jake Dunning 6-4, 188 RHP Indiana grad. Converted INF, has a power arm with good command. Could rise fast.
  • _18. Rafael Rodrigiez OF Tall, rangy,four/ potential five-tooler. Comparisons to young, Vlad Guerrero.
  • _19. Seth Rosin 6-6, 230 RHP Throws strikes, keeps ball in the park. Very efficient and tough to hit.
  • _20. Mike Kickham 6-4, 205 LHP Missouri State grad. Live arm, needs to be more consistent with control.
  • _21. Ryan Cavan 2B Switch-hitter, solid bat with patient hitting approach. Has shown some pop.
  • _22. Stephen Harrold 6-1, 208 RHP UNC-Wilmington grad. Has success at A ball level, good power arm with command. Needs to repeat at higher levels.
  • _23. Luke Anders 6-6, 220 1B lefty bat out of Texas A&M. Power hitting potential, speed and defense are average.
  • _24. Aaron King 6-4, 205 LHP mid 90's velocity and a ton of missed bats brings him to AAA, control and mechanical issues may leave him there. Higher ceiling than most, still has to throw more strikes to contribute.
  • _26. Wendell Fairley 6-2,196 OF Was at one time considered a legit five tool prospect. Has not produced the power that was expected and still K's too much. Move to AA may help spring him from lethargy.
