"I'm from the government and I'm here to help" ... and two diverse pleas to stop

Whether it's the events in Ferguson or the most recent media fed, manufactured crisis du-jour what always seem to be lost in the "debate" is how often the problem is not about race or bigotry, but about the jack-boot of government, stomping on the faces of people of all races, creeds and colors. Parsing or comparing misery by sub-groups is counter productive, however, it is the favorite parlor game of the MSM.  Given that they are an agent or a tool of the previously mentioned government, this should not surprise.  As a result, we don't learn from history, we just keep repeating it. And then mournfully, ask ourselves "Why?....Peace.

The Nine Most Terrifying Words

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
- President Reagan Aug. 12, 1986

Please Stop Helping UsWalter E. Williams7/30/2014 12:01:00 AM - Walter E. Williams
While reading the first chapter of Jason Riley's new book, "Please Stop Helping Us," I thought about Will Rogers' Prohibition-era observation that "Oklahomans vote dry as long as they can stagger to the polls." Demonstrative of similar dedication, one member of Congress told Vanderbilt University political scientist Carol Swain that "one of the advantages and disadvantages of representing blacks is their shameless loyalty. ... You can almost get away with raping babies and be forgiven. You don't have any vigilance about your performance." In my opinion, there appear to be no standards of performance low enough for blacks to lose their loyalty to their black political representatives.
Riley says that between 1970 and 2001, the number of black elected officials skyrocketed from fewer than 1,500 to more than 9,000, but black poverty has remained roughly the same. Between 1940 and 1960, when black political power was virtually nonexistent, the black poverty rate fell from 87 percent to 47 percent. Riley points out that there has been significant achievement among the black middle class but that wide black-white gaps remain with respect to income, educational achievement, unemployment, labor force participation, incarceration rates and other measures. Despite political gains, there have been dramatic reversals in teen unemployment, crime, out-of-wedlock births and family stability. Political power is neither a necessary nor a sufficient condition for socio-economic progress.
Riley lays out the devastating deal black political leaders and civil rights leaders have made with labor unions, in his aptly named chapter "Mandating Unemployment." Black leaders of the past recognized that labor unions were hostile to the interests of ordinary blacks. Frederick Douglass, in his 1874 essay "The Folly, Tyranny, and Wickedness of Labor Unions," argued that unions were not friends of blacks. W.E.B. Du Bois called unions "the greatest enemy of the black working man." Booker T. Washington also opposed unions because of their adverse impact on blacks.
....
Riley's "Educational Freedom" chapter details the sorry story of black education. Between 1970 and today, educational spending has tripled and the school workforce has doubled, far outpacing student enrollment. Despite these massive increases in resources, black academic achievement is a national disgrace. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, known as the nation's report card, black 17-year-olds score at the same level as white 13-year-olds in reading and math. White 13-year-olds score higher than black 17-year-olds in science.
A number of studies show that black students who attend private and charter schools do far better than their peers in public schools. If there were greater parental choice, through educational vouchers, black achievement would be higher. However, teachers unions see school choice as a threat to their monopoly, and virtually every black politician, including the president, backs the teachers unions.
At an 1865 gathering of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society, Douglass said everybody had asked, "What should we do with the Negro?" Douglass said: "I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us." Later on, Washington explained, "It is important and right that all privileges of the law be ours, but it is vastly more important that we be prepared for the exercise of these privileges." It's the abandonment of these visions that accounts for the many problems of today that Riley's book does a masterful job of explaining.

Yankees’ A-Rod Looking To Make Deal; Could Face Lifetime Ban | CBS New York

Down goes the guy who many in the media had championed as "the one who will replace Barry in the all-time record books". Glad we're not letting the court of public opinion decide things.

from CBS New York:
Report: Yankees’ A-Rod Looking To Make Deal; Could Face Lifetime Ban « CBS New York:
Now the focus has shifted to Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
The evidence against the 14-time All-Star is ”far beyond” what the league had against Braun, according to ESPN.com. However, the Yankees don’t expect Rodriguez to be suspended immediately, sources told the website.
ESPN.com is also reporting that, according to sources, Rodriguez could very likely face a suspension similar to Braun’s.
An MLB source told CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod, however, that the five-time American League home-run champion could be looking at a lifetime ban.
'via Blog this'

Whatever they have on A-Rod it must be pretty good if the options are 156 games or life. The good news for Alex -- there is a lot of room for negotiation. One wonders if TPTB in baseball will allow the Yankees to void what is left of his mega-contract and let Alex try his luck as a free-agent again ( after a suitable suspension ) as part of any deal.

Bet a dollar his average annual salary goes WAY down.

UPDATE:
Anger over latest PED scandal in baseball could lead to penalty of erasing contracts

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/madden-anger-growing-time-void-contracts-article-1.1410722

The rank and file are outraged enough that, for the first time, there is the suggestion that steroid cheats should have to pay with their contracts. Up until now, baseball contracts have been sacrosanct, as in unable to be voided.

Then it wouldn't surprise me in the least if some "surprising new" information comes to light about the suddenly mortal, but equally as filthy locked-in rich as A-Rod -- Albert Pujols. Then we'll see if the the union ( and it's members ) bites back or if by then it will be too late and they will realize they have been out-foxed and out-maneuvered into adopting a TSA-NSA style position of  "if you're not guilty, you have nothing to worry about".

Enjoy life as a serf boys ( albeit a well-paid one ). At least you will know who your masters are. Ask your Dominican brethren to recount for you what having this kind of leverage does to your employers.

Or maybe my tin-foil hat is just screwed on too tight, IDK check with me on this in a couple of years.

The economic contortionists (like Mark Zandi) are really going to earn their money today

from marketwatch.com

By Jeffry BartashWASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The economy generated just 88,000 jobs in March - the smallest gain in 10 months - and more people dropped out of the labor force, adding to a fresh pile of evidence that the pace of hiring in the United States has slowed. The unemployment rate fell a tick to 7.6% from 7.7%, the lowest rate since December 2007, but the decline stemmed from fewer Americans looking for work, according to Labor Department data. The jobs report fell well short of Wall Street forecasts. Economists polled by MarketWatch expected the number of new jobs to increase by 190,000 last month and for the unemployment rate to remain unchanged at 7.7%. Employment gains for February and January, however, were both revised higher and people who do hold jobs put in more hours, Labor said Friday. The number of new jobs created in February was revised to 268,000 from 236,000, while January's figure was revised up to 148,000 from 119,000. The biggest increase in hiring in March occurred in professional services (51,000) and health care (23,000). Retailers and government trimmed employment. Average hourly wages edged up 1 cent to $23.82, reducing the 12-month increase to 1.8%. The average workweek rose 0.1 hour to 34.6, a sign that workers are putting in more overtime. The participation rate, a measure of health in the labor market, slid again to 63.3%, marking the lowest level since 1979.

"Lucy, I think you've got some 'splainin' to do."

Dang it, where's my Orwellian Doublespeak for Dummies book. I thought I didn't need it anymore.

Oh wait, here it is:

from wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doublespeak
Doublespeak is language that deliberately disguises, distorts, or reverses the meaning of words. Doublespeak may take the form of euphemisms (e.g., "downsizing" for layoffs, "servicing the target" for bombing [1]), in which case it is primarily meant to make the truth sound more palatable. It may also refer to intentional ambiguity in language or to actual inversions of meaning (for example, naming a state of war "peace"). In such cases, doublespeak disguises the nature of the truth. Doublespeak is most closely associated with political language.[2][3]

OK, OK good start...I need more help here.

Edward S. Herman, political economist and media analyst, has highlighted some examples of doublespeak and doublethink in modern society.[7] Herman describes in his book, Beyond Hypocrisythe principle characteristics of doublespeak;
What is really important in the world of doublespeak is the ability to lie, whether knowingly or unconsciously, and to get away with it; and the ability to use lies and choose and shape facts selectively, blocking out those that don’t fit an agenda or program.[8]

Yeah, yeah, yeah that's it. Doublespeak, doubletalk, yeah, yeah. Hell, even I'm confused now.

 In his essay "Politics and the English Language", George Orwell observes that political language serves to distort and obfuscate reality. Orwell’s description of political speech is extremely similar to the contemporary definition of doublespeak;
In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defence of the indefensible… Thus political language has to consist largely of euphemism, question-begging and sheer cloudy vagueness… the great enemy of clear language is insincerity. Where there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, ...[9]

Oh, good stuff man. Thank you George Orwell, you are a God-send man!!! Wait, wait, there's more.

Conflict theories

Due to the inherently deceptive nature of doublespeak as well as its prominent use in politics, doublespeak has been linked to the sociological perspective known as conflict theories. Conflict theories detract from ideas of society being naturally in harmony, instead placing emphasis on political and material inequality as its structural features. Antonio Gramsci's concepts on cultural hegemony, in particular, suggest that the culture and values of the economic elite – the bourgeoisie – become indoctrinated as ‘common sense’ to the working-class, allowing for the maintenance of the status quo through misplaced belief. Being himself one of the leaders of the Communist Party of Italy, (CPI), his theories had, in turn, been strongly influenced by the German social thinkerKarl Marx, and have their ideological roots grounded in Marxist theory of false consciousness and capitalist exploitation. While Gramsci's views argue that culture (beliefs, perceptions and values) allows the ruling class to maintain domination, Marx's explanation is along more economic lines, with concepts such as commodity fetishism demonstrating how the ideology of the bourgeoisie (in this case, the existence of property as a social creation rather than an 'eternal entity') dominate over that of the working classes.[10] In both cases, both philosophers argue that one view - that of the bourgeoisie - dominates over others, hence the term conflict theories.

OMG!!! This shit is awesome. This is going to be a piece of cake!!! Can we get the media involved? Help us make our case a bit better?

Contemporary writings
Doublespeak might also have some connections with contemporary theories as well. Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky note in their book that Orwellian Doublespeak is an important component of the manipulation of the English language in American media, through a process called ‘dichotomization’; a component of media propaganda involving ‘deeply embedded double standards in the reporting of news’. For example, the use of state funds by the poor and financially needy is commonly referred to as 'social welfare' or 'handouts', which the 'coddled' poor 'take advantage of'. These terms, however, do not apply to other beneficiaries of government spending such as tax incentives and military spending.[12]

Is there anymore? Let's see I think I have enough. I used to just rely on "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, just baffle them with Bull Shit". But this is so much better. Much more comprehensive and effective.

I can't believe they haven't caught on by now. It's not like there isn't an Internet or Alternative media sources where they can find some actual truth. They must like us....they must really, really like us!!

Examples of the structural nature of the use of Doublespeak have been made by modern scholars. Noam Chomsky argues in Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Mediathat people in modern society consist of decision-makers and social participants who have to be made to agree.[13] According to Chomsky, the media and public relations industry actively shape public opinion, working to present messages in line with their economic agenda for the purposes of controlling of the 'public mind'.[13] Contrary to the popular belief that indoctrination is inconsistent with democracy, Chomsky goes so far as to argue that 'it's the essence of democracy.'[13]

The point is that in a ... totalitarian state, it doesn't much matter what people think because ... you can control what they do. But when the state loses the bludgeon, when you can't control people by force and when the voice of the people can be heard, ... you have to control what people think. And the standard way to do this is to resort to what in more honest days used to be called propaganda. Manufacture of consent. Creation of necessary illusions.[13]

Thanks man, I hope the people never figure this shit out, man!!! They'd go absolutely nuts over this!! Wait a minute!! Are they even people anymore? Or have we really turned them into mind-less sheeple?

You people -- or sheeple, or whatever -- HAVE A NICE DAY!!!

ECB Study: Big Government Is Bad for the Economy....(DUH!!)

File this under we know more than has been proven. Finally, the socialists are grudgingly realizing that while socialism, Keynesian economic theory and big government may work in theory, in practice, not so much.

ECB Study: Big Government Is Bad for the Economy | Cris Sheridan | FINANCIAL SENSE:

"The European Central Bank may have just disproved the entire European big-government model in their recent release of an exhaustive study analyzing the relationship between government size and economic growth. After reviewing a massive 108 countries over a 38 year time period, they came to a shocking and definitive conclusion:

Big government is bad for economic growth!

“Our results show a significant negative effect of the size of government on growth.”

“Interestingly, government consumption is consistently detrimental to output growth irrespective of the country sample considered (OECD, emerging and developing countries).”"

Now, for most people who operate based on common sense and formulating their opinions from the natural world they experience every day, this is not a shocking result; but, unfortunately, many economists and others need 44 page research studies and sophisticated differential equation models (see pages 31-33) to conclude what most people have known and said for quite some time.

As a wise man once said, "The great achievements of civilization have not come from government bureaus." (see video below)

Left's 'Ministry of Truth' Specializes in Doublespeak

In fairness, both sides of the aisle in in government play very fast and loose with the truth. Government statistics are so manipulated, mangled and distorted it's not even funny. And they have been for many years.

The recent National Association of Realtors re-benchmarking of prior reported sales figures going back for years was a joke.

All for our own benefit, I suppose.

From Newsmax:
Left's 'Ministry of Truth' Specializes in Doublespeak:

"As I heard Barack Obama and his propaganda minister, Jay Carney, endorsing tax cuts as a vehicle for economic growth, I was reminded, again, of George Orwell's "1984" and the striking similarities between his Oceania and the American left's vision for America.

Oceania's Big Brother regime had "four Ministries between which the entire apparatus of government was divided," the Ministry of Truth, the Ministry of Peace, the Ministry of Love and the Ministry of Plenty.

Each department was dedicated to the opposite principle suggested by its title. "Truth" disseminated lies. "Peace" promoted war. "Love" enforced uniformity of thought. And "Plenty" manipulated the economy to impoverish the people while enriching the ruling class. God was expelled and absolute truth abolished, while "doublespeak" was promoted. "

GM Is Watching You by Eric Peters (maybe listening in on you as well)

Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me

A blast from the past, or back to the future. It's 1984 all over again.

You know, it seems like when we were school kids reading these two books, they seemed like utter nonsense. Now it feels like we're living in a 1984 and Animal Farm type world described by George Orwell and we don't even realize how we got here. Provocative stuff.

What happened to privacy rights? We used that as an excuse to build up a whole new industry called abortion spear-headed by Planned Parenthood. And yet here, well maybe your privacy rights aren't really so important. Yes, it's all very clear to me now comrades.

GM Is Watching You… by Eric Peters:

"I have never liked GM’s OnStar system – in part because I don’t like the idea of my car that I paid for having someone else’s “black box” recording (and transmitting) data about how I drive, where I drive and even when I drive. I also don’t like that GM force-feeds OnStar to every buyer of every GM car – whether the buyer wants it or not.

I believe that GM’s long-term goal is to see to it that not only every GM vehicle is equipped with a “black box” (technically, an Event Data Recorder, or EDR) but that all vehicles are so equipped – and every single driver in the United States – possibly the world – monitored whenever he or she is operating a motor vehicle."

There is big money in it: Automated tickets, jacked-up insurance fees for “speeders” and seat belt scofflaws – as well as “marketing opportunities” for GM’s “partners,” whom GM will provide all sorts of juicy tidbits about your life to – including where and when you shop, so that they can “target” their advertising your way.

And there is the prospect of delicious (to power lusters) micromanaging control, too.

Drive faster than The Law says you ought to – and they’ll know about it, immediately, every single time you do it and exactly how much you do it. Fail to Buckle Up For Safety – even if it’s just to drive down the driveway – and they’ll know about it the moment you put the car in gear. It is entirely within the realm of technical possibility that they’ll even know exactly what you’ve been talking about while in your car, too – because OnStar is very much like a Telescreen from Orwell’s 1984. If you have an OnStar-equipped car, you have GM’s microphones in your car. And GM can turn them on anytime it likes – and record anything you say.

No, I am not exaggerating.
