NFL Black Monday: Because you can't fire the owner

Bears, Jets, Falcons, 49ers and you could add the Redskins to the list. The common thread is all except the "Skins just released their coach and / or their GM on Black Monday, but also that each one of these franchises has either bad or overly meddlesome and clueless ownership.

You can't fire the owner. I guess you can make the suggestion however.



The 49ers CEO said he and Harbaugh parted ways due to "philosophical differences". what does that mean? One wanted to win and one wanted to lose? The 49ers say they wanted more of a teacher and yet their ex-coach is going back to his alma-mater Michigan, where presumably he will have to be.......more of a teacher. Seems like they may have been closer philosophically than either imagined. Or maybe there was more to it.

In the Bears case, I guess you can't fire the QB either. Not after you just made him the highest paid QB in the league. And surrounded him with weapons. And gave him an offensive minded coach to replace the defensive minded coach who was presumably holding him back.  Hmmmm......what am I missing here? Something about the first law of holes....?

The Bears just keep ordering more shovels and hiring more ditch diggers.

Tebow goes from a low-class team to a high-class team and the Jets are who we thought they were. Still LOSERS!! It will be interesting to see how the Pats and Josh McDaniel implement him in the offense.

Big Blue gets its win, but not help it needed as Giants miss playoffs - NYPOST

If this team had spent more time playing hard ALL the time and less time waiting to play hard until it's collective backs were pressed firmly against the wall, they would not have needed anyone's help to make the playoffs.

You should play hard ALL the time merely as an indication that you are a professional athlete.  Even six year olds have it drilled into their heads that it's all good as long as you do your best. This team seems like a collection of guys who have either forgotten that basic lesson or are not as smart as your average six year old.

This is on the coaching staff. You can't tell me that a team that would dog it or lose focus when their backs were NOT against the wall on Sunday, did not display those characteristics the other six days of the week.

And don't give me that nonsense how you shouldn't have to motivate professional athletes. It's done ALL the time.  Wasn't part of the rationale for bringing Tim Tebow into the Jets locker room to "motivate" Mark Sanchez? Now, if we are to believe the genius QB gurus of ESPN ("Jaws" Jaworski and Trent Dilfer) Mark Sanchez would be a great QB if he wasn't pushed by Tebow (or anyone else for that matter). He's in the fish bowl that is being a QB of a NY city football team and he has "shy bladder sydrome"? And this guy is going to be a great QB? Maybe the Jets should be the first team without a backup QB. So little Marky-Mark doesn't get his itty-bitty feelings hurt?

Both teams in the Met Life Bowl need a good flush.

In hindsight, a bad marriage. Headed for divorce court. It seems as if perhaps the Jets may have just been playing "keep away from the Pats" with Tebow and were willing to waste a roster spot to do so. Maybe Tim should have headed for Jacksonville, maybe the Pats would have been better even if he would be a clear and distant #2.

“No, he is not one of the elites,” Simms said. “Because when I hear the word elite, I’m thinking about guys that can make unbelievable plays on the field by themselves. There are very few quarterbacks in that category.

Bad Omen. Seriously, I never thought of Tebow as divisive (polarizing) personally. I get that his public persona causes people to divide, but his leadership skills cause people of different faiths, values and circumstances to come together to accomplish a common goal.

Strangely, I had not heard President Obama described as polarizing in the past, but I guess I must have missed the articles cited below.

I might have to watch MNF instead of the baseball play-offs after reading this article. And the Jets are normally very polarizing to a Giants fans like me. Thanks Timmy boy.

This Jet cornerback may be better at conceptions than interceptions.

Jets' Darrelle Revis is a turnstile with a big mouth

This is what he said before the Denver game. A pretty big game for the Jets now disappearing playoff hopes.

"Yeah, if you have Michael Vick and, I don't know, Chris Johnson at running back," Revis said in advance of the Jets' game at Denver on Thursday. "Yeah, it can work. Those are probably the two fastest guys that can probably get out on the edge on you. Yeah, those two."

What about Tebow?

Not for a whole season?

"No, not for a whole season," Revis said. "Because we know what they're doing, and we feel comfortable in our game plan."

Revis called Denver's style of offense "Wildcat with a good passer." He said Tebow, the second-year player out of Florida, must be motivated by all the skeptics."

And her's what Revis actually delivered when the game was on the line.

I guess the Broncos offense CAN work if Tebow plays against tacklers like Revis and his solid technique all season. Maybe he fell asleep during this pivotal drive. What with the game on the line and the fans screaming and junk, he may have fallen asleep.



To add to his stellar resume this week, against the cross-town rival Giants, Revis can actually be seen pulling away from Ahamd Bradshaw -- again during a pivotal drive -- with the Jets season on the line.

Revis is #24 offering no help to teammate Rodney Poole as Bradshaw runs him over. In fact, at about the :40 second mark, it almost appears as if Revis is pulling "away" from offering any help to Poole.



Revis is just like his coach. All talk, no action. He should learn how to tackle better, especially playing for a coach who built his reputation as a defensive genius. Rex Ryan must be so proud. I think I know how Buddy Ryan would feel.
