Tony Boselli puts Chris Simms on blast for being awful at football

Tony Boselli puts Chris Simms on blast for being awful at football
Image result for chris simms

The Jaguars are going to the Championship game with the #70 ranked QB, according to both Chris Simms, who should be ashamed of himself, and that chortling, ESPN-moron, Dan LeBeRetard, who is a perma-fool.

Simms is worse than an idiot. I still hope Boselli punches him in the face, it might raise his IQ.

After what his Dad went through in NY with ignorant fans and media, Chris Simms should know better. Phil Simms was known as Simms Sucks right up until the first Super Bowl, from which he emerged as the MVP.

The New York Post had letters from fans in the week leading up to that first Super Bowl saying "It's nice that the Giants got this far, but Simms will blow it." The Broncos logo, John Elway was destined to roll over the vaunted Giants D and win easily. Didn't happen. The quotes below, attributed to the junior Simms, are of the same tone and tenor as those leveled at the senior Simms back in the day.

For that, I would excuse Phil Simms from the charge of child abuse if he beat Boselli to the punch, both literally and figuratively.

Fan-boys, media pseudo-experts and amateur pseudo-analysts were stupid back then and they remain stupid today.

Chris Simms is a horses ass. He's still the same guy that rode up to the University of Texas in a limo and lost the team to the unheralded Major Applewhite. Stupid then, stupid now.

The Barry Zito Era: $126M for 3.5 WAR = $63M per ring

I hear the argument that the SABR metric oriented crowd makes that this was a horrifically bad contract or investment on the part of the Giants and I have to chuckle a bit. If WAR is the only valid measuring stick, then certainly and without a doubt, NOT a good deal.

But if you had told me when Barry Zito signed with the Giants prior to the 2007 season that by the end of the deal the Giants would have TWO world series championships, I would have to say, also without a doubt, this would be a great deal and a fantastic return on investment.

Now granted, the Giants did NOT win two World Series championships entirely due to the efforts of Barry Zito, but it would be foolish to minimize the contributions he made and the benefits he brought to the table. Some of which are very difficult to quantify.

Remember, this was a franchise that was transitioning from an offensive oriented, Barry Bonds led team to a defensive minded, pitching oriented team. Zito's stature and contract allowed a Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum and Madison Bumgarner to develop under a lower level of scrutiny than if mega-bucks Barry were not around to brutalize. He allowed those guys to develop while flying under the radar.

The team was also making the transition from a veteran oriented, Felipe Alou led team to a younger Bruce Bochy led squad.

Would Giants management and fans have preferred that the Barry Zito of 2007-10 produce more than 40 wins? Absolutely.

Did the 3 win record posted in 2011, almost seal the deal among fans that this was an epically bad signing? Absolutely.

Did the rebound in 2012 balance the scales of being left off the playoff roster in 2010? In a sense, I think it did. Some will say, the Giants won without Zito in 2010 because of this, dismissing ANY of his contributions to get them to the first championship. In fairness, you then have to acknowledge that you don't have the second championship without Zito.

On balance, the Zito era in San Francisco is in my opinion an unqualified success and is an almost heroic path that I can only liken to the path that NY football Giants fans took with a QB by the name of Phil Simms.

There were high initial hopes that were dashed for various reasons, some due to injury, some just lack of productivity. Eventually with Simms and the Giants, two Super Bowls were won.  One of those titles the Giants won with Simms on the DL and a backup finishing the work that Simms started. So, like Zito, some fans will retroactively short-change the accomplishments of Simms to validate their prior bashing by saying, "well, he really only won one title, Jeff Hostettler won the other one". I think I could have QB'd that team after they started something like 10-0. It was a credit to the confidence they had built WITH Simms at the helm that they were able to win it all in spite of losing their leader heading towards the playoffs. Fans who wanted to at one time run both of these perceived bums out of town, are eventually rewarded by basking in the glow of two trips to the sports mountain top. And fans and media pundits are left to re-jigger their prior missives about said bums and re-write history. There are many more Giants fans who will say they supported Simms all along then there actually were.

I have to admit that I did not fully support sticking with Barry Zito as much as I did earlier with Phil Simms, but in both cases, I'm glad the respective organizations DID stick with them. All of  the ex-post facto analysis and hand wringing of why the organizations were wrong but things somehow worked out right notwithstanding, I unequivocally salute Barry Zito for all the strength and perseverance he has demonstrated personally and which he brought to the Giants. To me, his contributions are immeasurable. Going forward, I would challenge the SABR crowd to find a metric that would adequately measure those qualities. Then we might really have something of value to discuss.

Parcells' HOF induction long overdue - ESPN New York

AP Photo/Ray StubblebineBill Parcells will join Lawrence Taylor in Canton.

My sentiments exactly for the same reasons I outlined last year when he was snubbed.
http://slavieboy.blogspot.com/2012/02/parcells-snubbed-by-hof.html

So now Strahan waits. I'm not sure he's any less worthy than Warren Sapp. The NFL's Hall of Fame problem is there is such a logjam of guys who should be in, but there is a cap on the number of guys they let in each year. No knock on Sapp, he was a force of nature when he came into the league.

Parcells did so much to turn around the fortunes of two of the current NFL heavyweights -- the NY Giants and the New England Patriots -- that he simply had to get in. LT's comments may make it seem like a parochial issue, but further down in the article fellow HOFer Curtis Martin give Parcells equal amount of credit for his HOF career. Those two endorsements alone should have carried him in the first ballot. Sometimes I just have no idea what these media types are doing.

To me, he was always the model of what a coach should be. The master motivator, the sometimes caustic wit. He was so Jersey. His press conferences became legendary before YouTube and 24/7, nationwide sports coverage. He was Governor Chris Christie before there was a Governor Chris Christie. Or maybe Christie is simply the political incarnation of Bill Parcells.

Congrats to the Big Tuna!! Now if we can just get Phil Simms in there, all would be right with the Football Hall of Fame.

from ESPN.com:
Parcells' HOF induction long overdue - ESPN New York:

"But if Bill didn't finally get in this year," Lawrence Taylor told ESPNNewYork.com on Saturday night, "they needed to shut the Hall of Fame down. The whole thing wouldn't have meant anything without him in there."

If a lot of people thought Parcells' failure to earn induction last year was something of a joke, Taylor wasn't among them. "I wasn't laughing," he said by phone. "You can't keep a coach like Bill Parcells out of the Hall of Fame, or the place means nothing. I'm very thankful to be part of his legacy."

Phil Simms Says Eli Manning Is Not One of the NFL's 'Elite' Quarterbacks

Are they putting stupid sauce in the water up there in NY? What is wrong with these people?

Phil, SHUT THE BLEEP UP!!

You are now most Giants fans SECOND favorite QB and probably always will be.

Heck, some of us old timers put you third behind Y.A. Tittle, maybe fourth behind Tarkenton. Tearing down Eli is not going to move you up the charts Buckaroo.

He has two rings, you have two rings. But he was on the field for both of his and you were not. Not your fault, just a fact. Plus Eli put us through a few less years of tortured QB-ing before he blossomed, so he wins any tie-breaker here as well.

Plus, HE MAY WIN MORE!!! BONUS!!! Ding, ding, ding WE HAVE A WINNER!!

And WHAT THE BLEEP is with the Jets ripping into Tebow? Dude hasn't even played!!!

Have you over-rated divas who ARE playing taken a look at your record (3 - 6) lately?
Or your place in the standings? Time to check YOURSELVES fellas.

That storm must have knocked some of these guys for a loop. Get a grip.

from Bleacherreport.com
Phil Simms Says Eli Manning Is Not One of the NFL's 'Elite' Quarterbacks:

The Giants legend reopened that debate on Monday night when he questioned Manning’s elite status during an appearance on CBS Sports Network’s “NFL Monday QB” show. And he didn’t just blame Manning’s current slump or his poor performance in the Giants’ 31-13 loss in Cincinnati on Sunday either.
“No, he is not one of the elites,” Simms said. “Because when I hear the word elite, I’m thinking about guys that can make unbelievable plays on the field by themselves. There are very few quarterbacks in that category.
“So yes, Eli has been a tremendous team player. He has been MVP of the Super Bowl twice. I know that. But the way I look at it, the answer is no.”

Parcells Snubbed by HOF

Americas Game 1986 New Giants part (1).mp4

I could watch this documentary on the Giants 1986 season a million times and still get goose bumps. The Parcells-Simms relationship drama, the genesis of the Gatorade dump, the Parcells - Taylor marriage, the ups and downs of how a team is built under one of the biggest microscopes in sports.

At the time, I thought Parcells was the best coach I had ever seen (in some ways, I still do). He was the BCOPE (Best Coach on Planet Earth) to Barry Bonds' BPOPE (Best Player on Planet Earth).  Apparently, greater minds than mine disagree. For now.

Bill Parcells not elected to Hall of Fame
http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/id/35973/bill-parcells-not-elected-to-hall-of-fame

INDIANAPOLIS -- It was the first year in which former New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and New York Jets coach Bill Parcells was eligible for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so the fact that he did not make it is not devastating. There's reason to believe he will get in eventually, but on Saturday night, he was not among the final candidates. Neither was former Cowboys great Charles Haley. My personal opinion is that they both should be in, but Parcells is the more surprising omission, so let's take a look at it.

I get some of the reasons stated, if they are what kept Parcells out, but some of the "logic" makes no sense at all.

Parcells should be in and Phil Simms should be in. You watch how fast the debate begins around "Is Eli a HOF QB?" now that he has two rings and Coughlin will be debated as a coaching candidate as well.

Folks forget that Simms has two rings as well, and he led the Giants team and organization through the wilderness.  They helped blaze the trail and lit the path for those that followed.

It was a much tougher road traversed by the Simms - Parcells combo than Manning - Coughlin. And in many ways -- they actually made things easier -- if "easier" is a term that can be lightly tossed into a discussion about winning Super Bowls.

Hopefully, you get my point. If Manning - Coughlin are deemed worthy, I'm not sure why Simms and Pacrcells are meeting with such resistance.

Is Eli the Greatest QB in Giants' History?

This is an interesting question. My wife asked me if Eli has made the leap over Phil Simms in my mind as the Greatest Giants QB of all time. And it was tough for me to answer.

Is Eli the Greatest QB in Giants' History?:

'via Blog this'

In the same way that the prior generations (my Dad) cling to Y.A. Tittle and Charlie Connerly as the best, for me, it comes down to the old saying "you never forget your first" and Phil Simms delivered the Giants first Super Bowl. Not only delivered it, but persevered in spite of many naysayers (the 'Simms Sucks' brigade) who continued chirping even up until the eve of of the Super Bowl. If you think that Tim Tebow has vocal (and sometimes irrational) doubters, you haven't spent enough time with full-throated Giants fans in unrequited heat.

So Simms will always be #1 in my heart, but Eli is slowly but surely building the case to be #1 if I'm leading with my head.

Tim Tebow still sucks, Brady Quinn is still the man. Yup.

Yup. Brady Quinn is THE MAN!!! Yup. Tebow SUCKS!!! Yup.

I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for this. Other than telling your stats to shut-up.

Perhaps the worst QB evaluation since Parcells went with Scott Brunner (who?) over Phil Simms (s/b in the HOF).

http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=310901022

Denver Passing
................C/ATT.. YDS.... AVG.... TD..... INT.... NFL RATING
T. Tebow....... 7/11... 116.... 10.5... 1...... 0...... 129.4
A. Weber....... 1/1.... 89..... 89.0... 0...... 0...... 118.8
B. Quinn....... 4/12... 26..... 2.2.... 0...... 1...... 7.6
Team........... 12/24.. 213.... 8.9.... 1...... 1

Quinn, who started the game, was just 4 of 12 for 26 yards with one interception in his two quarters.

"It was the offense, I think, all the way around," Quinn said. "We need to run the ball better, I need to play better as far as making throws and we need to catch the ball. We didn't make the plays when we needed to, and unfortunately it was a bad game to end the preseason."

Tim Tebow came on after halftime to complete 7 of 11 for 116 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown pass to rookie Eron Riley with 2:57 to play.

"Going into this game I didn't know exactly when I was going to get in there, when I was going to play or how long," Tebow said. "With my opportunity, I tried to make the most of it, try and figure a way to get the team in the end zone, which I was able to do, so that was good.
Coach John Fox had resisted publicly naming a backup to starter Kyle Orton, who had the night off along with the rest of Denver's first unit.

-----
The Tebow issue settled for your amuement by ESPN chief ass-clown Rick Reilly.

The same Rick Reilly who excoriated Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds over PED's, but couldn't salivate enough at the feet of Lance Armstrong. So he has both eyes open and can see things clearly.

http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/6898262/critics-tebow-critics-wrong

My comment submitted respectfully (cough, cough) to his story. I doubt very he much that he has the spine to respond.

Hate it as usual.

Methinks you doth protest too much. If Cross wasn't referring to you, it shouldn't have stung as much. I'm sure he meant some not all people who root against him no better.

http://slavieboy.blogspot.com/2011/08/cmon-man-cbs-sports-analysts-cool-on.html

Esiason was at our church recently, likeable guy, he should know better.

Read the comment section of most articles on Tebow and see if you don't find MUCH virulent, venomous anti-Tebow rhetoric. And for what? His bad mechanics? PLEASE.

Stop defending the indefensible.

Once an idiot, always an idiot over there at ESPN, I guess.
