Giants non-tender Yusmeiro Petit and Hector Sanchez - McCovey Chronicles

Two more long-time Giants who are leaving the fold, Petit to the Nationals and Sanchez to the White Sox. I'm not as flip as Grant Bisbee over at McCovey Chronicles seems to be about the loss of Petit. I don't know if Chris Heston fills the role Petit did quite as well. I'm also not sure the Giants win the last World Series without some significant contributions out of the pen from Petit.

Sanchez seemed to lose the hit too after the concussion(s) and struggled to get it bat, but in his time he was a really good hitting prospect behind the dish. Hector seems to set up for outside pitches in the "decap zone" where foul tips come off the bat really, really hard. It would be hard to justify the veteran salary Sanchez would get with the development of bot Andrew Susac and Trevor Brown.

Hector Sanchez wins it for Giants in ninth - McCovey Chronicles

Hector Sanchez's walk-off may have been the headline, but Brandon Crawford's defense cannot be buried in the lead. One thing about watching the Giants every day, you gain an appreciation for the defensive brilliance of Brandon Crawford. This one was ticketed, marked in the books as a single, until Crawford does his thing.

He just makes it look too easy and his ability to play defense reportedly helped Jake Dunning make the transition from collegiate SS to RHP. So the Giants pick up a pitching prospect as well.

Sanchez's walk-off HR. Classic Alert: The Washington Nats fan right behind home plate ( to the right) doing the belly-rub jinx right before the final pitch had to go home disappointed. So sad, wasting a good belly rub.

Instead, Hector Sanchez took a pitch at his waist. According to the lasers, it was the last out of the game:

The next pitch was even higher. And we'll never know where it landed. It doesn't matter. A Giants game just ended, and you're thinking positive thoughts.

Giants' Barry Zito raves about Triple-A catcher

Sanchez is regarded more for his prowess with the bat, but this endorsement of his defensive ability should help speed his arrival. He has hit -- Panda style -- at every level of development. Let's hope he continues the same trajectory as Sandoval moving forward.

Giants' Barry Zito raves about Triple-A catcher:

"Hector Sanchez, the organization's top prospect at the position, caught three of Zito's four rehab starts, and the left-hander raved about the 21-year-old Venezuelan. Zito said he would be comfortable throwing to Sanchez in a major-league game, an opinion that might carry significant weight as the front office decides whether to give the kid a shot.

'He's beyond his years,' Zito said. 'He's got a good idea on mixing pitches. We threw changeups to lefties and cutters in to righties. I definitely shook him, but I like the way he mixes and the way he receives the ball. The kid is so young, and he rakes' at the plate. He is hitting .299 with eight homers and 52 RBIs combined"
