I mentioned in a previous blog how the Giants seemed to be leading the league in getting behind early, giving up an inordinate amount of runs in the first inning and voila!, here's the statistical back-up.

The teams ranked higher on this basis are not exactly world-beaters (Orioles, White Sox, Reds). 

Apparently, this is a betting gambit that players use to get quick win-loss feedback so they can go on to the next wager without having to sit through three hours of boredom. You can literally bet by inning. You must really have to look hard to spot trends in the middle innings. First and last, I guess I can see....Some people would make book if two cockroaches appeared all of a sudden and scurried across the floor.

You can flip the order of the table in the other direction to see who is best at preventing first inning runs.

There doesn't appear to be a huge correlation between winning and losing record based on this, but I know which table I would rather see the name "Giants" appear.
