OK, this could work. He's not going to need much money, he's a good player with some good years still left in him and he can be a really exciting player, a fan favorite. PLUS I LIKE HIM!!!! What could go wrong? SABEAN. DO NOT screw this up.

Eric Byrnes says Giants would be 'best fit'
Though Eric Byrnes said he's finally 100 percent after two injury-marred seasons, the Diamondbacks gave up on him despite owing him $11 million next season. He could sign with another team for the minimum salary, and he's open to playing for the Giants if the interest is mutual.
"It's not a real secret (that) I'd definitely be interested," Byrnes said in a phone interview. "The Giants, of course, that's the best fit geographically."
Note in the same article that Adam LaRoche did not specifically mention the hitting conditions at Phone Number Park as a factor leading to his rejection of the G-Men's contract, but he did extol the virtues of Arizona's park. Hmmmm.....
You would think then that we would do a better job attracting free agent PITCHERS then right?
Oh yeah, I forgot about Barry Zito and the Big Unit.
