First inning vexing to Hudson once again

Given the way Despaigne dominates the Giants (noted below), this game was effectively over after the first. There doesn't seem to be a lot of fight left in this dog of a team, partly due to injuries, partly due to sporadic episodes of ineptness. We have two starters who can't seem to get anybody out lately, both named Timmy, although Lincecum threw a couple of innings without harm.

DESPAIGNE DOMINATES
The Padres right-hander improved to 2-0 with a 0.45 ERA in three starts against San Francisco. He's allowed only one earned run in 20 innings.

This game was a bit of a microcosm of the 2014 Giants season and illustrates in a couple of regards why they have been particularly vexing to fans. Late in the game Kuip and Kruk went all Braves announcer ( tough guy behind the mike ) after Posey got hit by a slider that backed up on R.J. Alvarez, intimating that this would fire up the Giants bench. Are you serious, guys? 

Posey got lit up and knocked into next season a while back and I'm still waiting for his teammates to respond to that.

This team simply doesn't have the same personality or composition of the 2010 or 2012 teams. It's almost silly to try to impute those characteristics just because the name on the front of the uniforms is the same. Sandoval followed Posey and proceeded to battle a bit, extending the AB by fouling off some tough pitches. The Giants announcers kept pumping the narrative that the bench was fired up at the HBP. Sandoval, duly motivated proceeded to end the AB with a limp fly out to short LF.

So much for that kind of external motivation. And seriously guys, you need that to motivate you at this point in the season? When you're trying to make the Dodger series meaningful? My guess is the Padres makes that series a moot point. Maybe better for this team in that they can then limp through that one and the next one and recharge their batteries for what is sure to be a one game trouncing at the hands of the Pirates. In Pittsburgh.

After watching a game like that the only thing I regret is that apparently the Brewers seem to want to be in the playoffs even less than the Giants. I am with the guys 100% in sentiment, you would like to see some fight in this bunch, the vexing part of the 2014 Giants is, I'm not seeing it.

Giants Top Minor League Prospects

  • 1. Joey Bart 6-2, 215 C Power arm and a power bat, playing a premium defensive position. Good catch and throw skills.
  • 2. Heliot Ramos 6-2, 185 OF Potential high-ceiling player the Giants have been looking for. Great bat speed, early returns were impressive.

  • 10. Shaun Anderson 6-4, 225 RHP Large frame, 3.36 K/BB rate. Can start or relieve

  • 2. Riley Greene 6-2, 190 OF Haggerty HS (FL) Florida commit.Best HS hitting prospect. LH bat with good eye, plate discipline and developing power.
  • 3. C.J. Abrams 6-2, 180 SS Blessed Trinity HS (GA) High-ceiling athlete. 70 speed with plus arm. Hitting needs to develop as he matures. Alabama commit.

  • 1. Adley Rutschman C Oregon State Plus defender with great arm. Excellent receiver plus a switch hitter with some pop in the bat.
  • 2. Shea Langliers C Baylor Excelent throw and catch skills with good pop time. Quick bat, uses all fields approach with some pop.
  • 3. Zack Thompson 6-2 LHP Kentucky Missed time with an elbow issue. FB up to 95 with plenty of secondary stuff.
  • 4. Matt Wallner 6-5 OF Southern Miss Run producing bat plus mid to upper 90's FB closer. Power bat from the left side, athletic for size.
  • 5. Nick Lodolo LHP TCU Tall LHP, 95MPH FB and solid breaking stuff.
