Belt needed a jump start and got one with the benching. The Giants need a jump start in the form of about a ten game winning streak to get back to .500 or so ASAP if they are to have any hope of contending for a playoff spot. Failing a ten game winning streak, stringing together a months worth of winning series 2 out of 3 would help the cause.
from Yahoo Sports:
San Francisco Giants - Team Report - MLB - Yahoo! Sports:
1B Brandon Belt entered Friday night's game with only one hit in his last 19 at-bats, but, after sitting out the last three games, he found his stroke against Rays starter Chris Archer, going 3-for-4, including a home run and a triple. "He's been working on a few things and that's why we gave him three days off," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I think it was good for him. He looked great."'via Blog this'
My two favorite teams battling it out for their playoff lives. I wish that were true, the Rays still seem to be comfortably in the playoffs, while the Giants are clearly on the outside looking to get back in.
Memo to ESPN: It's probably OK to say Tampa Bay when referring to the Rays, but Tampa is a bit of a stick in the eye. I get the whole East Rutherford vs. New York Giants argument but still.....this team is not now, nor was it ever domiciled in Tampa.
Get it straight!!
