Mock draft version 1.0 | MLB.com

Of course you would like the pick a lot better without the health caveat. I like this one over the higher ceiling kid Justin Hooper and Allard is a 55, so you would have a premium prospect on board that you could dream on for a couple of years.

18. San Francisco Giants
Kolby Allard, LHP, San Clemente (Calif.) HS
Had Allard stayed healthy, he could have gone in the top five picks. But the top prep lefty had a stress reaction in his back, leaving those who already were a little concerned with durability perhaps more worried. Word was he was cleared to start throwing and private workouts for teams could reverse his direction.
Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 60 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 60 | Overall: 55
While Allard may not be big in stature, he had a huge summer on the high school showcase circuit. The 6-foot, 170-pounder won MVP honors at the Perfect Game All-American Classic in San Diego by needing just 12 pitches to strike out the side in the second inning. A month later, he pitched Team USA to a gold medal at the 18-and-under Pan American Championships in Mexico, fanning 17 of the 29 hitters he faced.
Injury prevented Allard from being able to repeat those performances in the spring leading up to the Draft.
He suffered a stress reaction in his back in late March, which was expected to sideline him for about two months.
A UCLA recruit, he has two plus pitches in his 92-94 mph fastball that tops out at 96 and a tight curveball. Allard's third pitch is a changeup that needs more work. He has an easy delivery that enhances his ability to command his pitches and his chances to remain a starter despite his smaller build.

Jonathan Mayo doesn't go into the comp round with his mock draft so I mock him for that.  I mock you Jonathan Mayo!! But of course, I read your article, so who's really the winner here?

Anyway, I hope he's right about the kid's health but. I hope he's wrong about his height. I thought he was 6-2, but Mayo has him at 6-0. Great!! He is a pretty smooth looking pitcher so WTH, what's two inches? Size doesn't matter, does it? It seems like I've lost that argument many times in the past. Oh boy!!
