The Giants may have just shifted the draft grade with this pick. Miller was ranked by
Baseball America as the #35 prospect and if they can sign him here out of the #95 spot, this represents the first clear value pick so far.
- Bickford was ranked #27 by BA and picked in the #18 spot (a minus 9, not too bad)
- Shaw was ranked #45 by BA and picked in the #31 spot (a minus 14, also not too bad, my initial feelings notwithstanding)
- Suarez was ranked #73 and picked in the #61 spot (a minus 12, again close enough for government work. If the team scouted like the government worked however, they'd finish with a 2-160 record, but that's for another blog post)
- Miller was ranked #35 by BA and picked in the #95 spot (A PLUS 60, YIPPEE!! WE FOUND VALUE)
Comps to Brandon Phillips are not too shabby, although a possible move down the road to second base could complicate things down the road. Oh well, we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there.

Comments: Alonzo Jones began 2015 as the top-rated middle-infield prospect among Georgia high schoolers, but Miller has surpassed him this spring. While Jones has superior speed, Miller has a more trustworthy bat and a much better chance of remaining in the infield in pro ball. He's built like Brandon Phillips was when Phillips was a Georgia prepster drafted in the second round, and Miller should go in the same area this year. He projects as a similar offensive player to Phillips too. Miller has an efficient right-handed swing and though he's not big, he could generate 15-homer power thanks to his strong wrists. A Clemson recruit, Miller exhibits good instincts in all phases of the game. His quickness, hands and arm get the job done at shortstop but may be better suited for second base at the next level.
